water - five element acupuncture
Water

Think of a cold and snowy winter day...the streets are quiet, people are inside staying warm, the air feels cold in your lungs... The Water Element holds the energy of the Winter season and represents darkness, stillness, quietness and an internal space. In Winter, the days are very cold and short. The plants and trees are in their dormant stage, keeping their energy deep, still and quiet within. Many animals hibernate, life slows down and rests.

In us the Water energy shows up as the emotions of Courage and Fear. Water represents our deep reserves of energy, our will to survive, and a trust in the universe. This energy also gives us the ability to move, flow, transform and change, just as water does on the Earth.

Physically, Water shows up as our Kidneys, The creator of energy and power in the body; and the Bladder, the reserves of this energy.

Spiritually, the Water energy gives us the ability to be still and quiet down. It gives us an opportunity to rest and rejuvenate so that, when needed, our energy will be abundant. Water gives us the will power and endurance to go through tough times with courage and the trust that everything will be okay.

When out of Balance:
When the Water Element is out of balance you may feel excessive fear or a struggle to survive. You may experience low energy, deep fatigue, exhaustion, reduced sex drive, lack of trust and timidity. You may have kidney or bladder problems. hypertension, infertility and back pain.

When in Balance:
When Water is in balance you have the gifts of wisdom, stillness, patience, potency, listening, and appropriate fear.

Water Meditation:
for 3 minutes - Close your eyes and imagine yourself in the woods in the Winter. What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? What is the sense of the air on your skin? Pay attention to how you you feel.
