wood - five element acupuncture
Wood

Isn't amazing how fast the crocuses just pop up at the beginning of spring? Wood can be represented by the explosive growing energy of Springtime. In Spring, the activities of nature are just beginning after a long cold winter. The days are getting longer and the air is warming up. The bulbs and seeds, that have been keeping still and warm beneath the earth, suddenly explode through the ground, giving birth to new bright green life. Animals are coming out of hibernation and having new babies. Birds begin their chirping, welcoming the dawn of creation.

Since we are part of nature, we too experience this same energetic movement of wood. It shows up as the uprising emotion of anger and the ability to be benevolent, bringing balance, justice and peace to all.

Physically, wood relates to the functions of the liver and the gallbladder. It is also responsible for the eyes and tendons.

Spiritually, the wood energy gives us creativity and the vision, planning and executing of our ideas and actions. Wood helps us see the big picture and gives us the flexibility we need to move through life smoothly.

When out of Balance:
When Wood is out of balance you may find it difficult to make decisions, have headaches, visual problems, muscle and tendon pain, inflexibility, or feel inappropriate anger and frustration. You may not be able to get things started. You may not have vision for your future or the ability to execute your dreams or creative ideas.

When in Balance:
When Wood is in balance you have the gifts of planning, decision making, clear perception, creativity, appropriate anger, vision and flexibility.

Wood Meditation: for 3 minutes - Close your eyes and imagine yourself in the woods in the Springtime. What do you see? What do you hear? What do you smell? What is the sense of the air on your skin? Pay attention to how you you feel.
